Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight’s David Sanford and Deborah Marcuse Among Benchmark Litigation’s Inaugural “Top 20 Labor and Employment Litigators”

USA – Benchmark Litigation has named Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight's Co-founder and Chairman David Sanford and its Firm Managing Partner Deborah K. Marcuse to its inaugural list of the nation’s Top 20 Labor and Employment Litigators.

The list features lawyers recognized by peers and clients for their exceptional reputations and achievements in labor and employment litigation. According to the publication, recipients of this first-ever recognition secured “the most robust and vocal ‘best-in-class’ nominations in its most recent research cycle.”

David Sanford has twice been named Benchmark’s Employee Litigator of the Year and Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight has twice been named Labor and Employment – Employee Firm of the Year.  Marcuse has been recognized as a Benchmark Litigation Labor and Employment Star since 2018.

“Both Deborah and I are delighted to be recognized by Benchmark Litigation,” said Sanford. “We are committed to representing individuals and classes of individuals seeking justice for egregious corporate behavior in the workplace.  Routinely these are matters where the playing field is not level and we change that dynamic and hold companies accountable for their employment practices.  We are proud to have achieved enormous success on behalf of our clients and have also created institutional change in companies and other workplaces, improving the working lives of an exponential number of people.”

A graduate of Stanford Law School, Sanford co-founded Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight in 2004 to litigate public interest and social justice cases that add significant value to individuals and communities. Since opening its doors, the firm has recovered more than one billion dollars for individual clients and the United States government and achieved unparalleled success in securing extraordinary systemic changes in corporate America.

Sanford himself serves as lead counsel for many clients and has achieved a strong record of success in the resolution of the most contentious employment disputes. He has previously earned recognition from The American Lawyer, Law360, Corporate Counsel, and The National Law Journal and is ranked a “Leader in the Field in New York for Labor and Employment: Mainly Plaintiffs Representation” by Chambers USA.

Marcuse is a 2008 graduate of Yale Law School who also holds a Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University. Named a Law360 MVP in Employment Law in 2019, Marcuse was recognized in 2021 by the National Law Journal among the Elite Women of the Plaintiff’s Bar and as a Plaintiff Trailblazer for her work in 2020, including the historic settlement she attained as lead class counsel for current and former graduate students and other student employees who alleged a gender-based hostile environment at the Ivy League College. Along with ongoing high-profile litigation against global law firm Morrison and Foerster and commercial real estate behemoth Cushman and Wakefield, Marcuse has worked with dozens of clients behind the scenes to amicably resolve their legal claims against their employers through confidential settlement.
