Investigations into Sexual Assaults at Cadet Sea Year Programs

We represent Midshipman X, a U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (“USMMA”) student who has bravely shared with a national audience the story of how she was raped and sexually harassed during her “Sea Year” aboard a Maersk Line cargo ship. Her bravery has inspired countless other victims to come forward with their own stories of sexual assault and harassment during their time as cadets aboard commercial cargo ships. Along with Midshipman X, we are committed to bringing about systematic change to these maritime training programs and to ending sexual assault and sexual abuse in the maritime industry. If you were sexually assaulted or harassed as a cadet in a Sea Year program or if you have information about sexual assault and/or sexual harassment in a maritime training program, please contact Sanford Heisler Sharp’s team of dedicated attorneys and staff at
