The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of The Bar Association of San Francisco received a $10,000 cy pres award thanks to Sanford Heisler, and its San Francisco Managing Partner and JDC Board Member Felicia Medina.

Sanford Heisler shares JDC’s commitment to advancing fairness and equality. The firm has successfully litigated and settled several discrimination cases, including a case that resulted in the largest employment gender discrimination verdict in U.S. history. Just in the last few months, Sanford Heisler has been in the news for securing a 3.3 million dollar verdict for a former UCSD women’s basketball coach who was terminated after complaining about Title IX violations. Medina and her team also secured a $19.5m pre-suit class settlement in a gender discrimination case against tech giant Qualcomm, and a win at the Supreme Court of California in a race discrimination case against a car dealership.

Sanford Heisler’s commitment to justice and diversity goes beyond the courtroom, as is reflected in their attorneys and staff. As one of the few queer women of color in a leadership position in a national firm, Medina is a fierce advocate for diversity and inclusion within the legal system and legal profession. “Sanford Heisler is thrilled to support the important work that JDC does in addressing and remedying the past and present injustices and inequities caused by oppression,” says Medina. “JDC’s commitment to the underserved and marginalized should stand as a reminder to all firms and attorneys that we still belong to a profession with duties beyond our clients’ and our own self-interests.”
